Our Story
Skip School is the creation of Jan Goldfluss, a dog loving owner since the 1980s, and a licensed Landscape Architect with over 40 years of professional experience working with municipalities on the design of urban spaces and public facilities. Years ago, while living in the San Francisco Bay area, Jan was introduced to a dog agility course at a local dog show. At a time when all the craze was for public parks to install exercise courses, he saw the need for dog owners to have the same opportunities to exercise their dogs. Since then, along with urbanization and suburban sprawl, many privately run kennels, dog daycare centers and traditional dog parks have sprouted up in the U.S. However, few of these facilities satisfy the increasing demand for dog recreation, specifically to provide the exercise and activity needed for dogs living in densely populated areas and planned communities.
Having their dogs free to run and exercise off-leash is also liberating for owners and promotes emotional well-being and satisfaction for dogs and their owners. Jan strongly believes that a dog activity park, integrated within existing amenity areas and open spaces, should be available to all. In particular, he sees the need for dog owners, many who are senior citizens, to have a place where their dogs can play in a safe, well-designed environment. Jan and his team at Skip School are committed to developing this concept into a vital public asset.
